The goal

Present three of Russia’s international airports at Russia Expo so that each one reveals its own architecture and character — and turn the encounter into a lively experience that works for visitors of any age.

The solution

In a single space at Russia Expo we presented three international airports — each with its own architectural signature and its own installation. At Yelizovo, visitors colored a paper plane and launched it over the Kamchatka terminal. At Simferopol, they flew a paper plane through the terminal with a wave of the hand. At Gelendzhik, a gesture repainted the terminal’s living LED ceiling. Three buildings, three ways to feel what makes them different.

[1] Yelizovo Airport (Kamchatka)

An interactive installation that makes the visitor a co-author. You take a sheet of paper printed with the outline of a plane, color it in and place it on a dedicated table. On the screen a digital model of the plane assembles itself in augmented reality — in exactly the design the visitor has just drawn. The plane takes off and flies over the terminal of Yelizovo Airport. The surroundings are rebuilt from real cartographic data. Rendering runs on Unreal Engine 5; three cameras read the drawing.

[2] Simferopol Airport

An interactive game, Paper Plane Flight. The visitor steps up to the booth, reaches out a hand — and a paper plane appears on the screen. Steering the flight with gestures, the player crosses the space of the terminal, collects bonuses and completes in-game tasks. The terminal is rendered in realistic graphics on Unreal Engine 5.

[3] Gelendzhik Airport

The interactive zone of Gelendzhik Airport. The visitor steps into a ring of light and sees the airport interiors from a range of angles on the screen ahead. Waving their arms, they drive the visual environment and watch the terminal’s living LED ceiling — an intricate color-lighting system — change in real time.
